gold & diamond, gems & jade.

i've been out walking.
i don't do too much talking these days.
these days.
these days, i seem to think a lot about the things that i forgot to do.
& all the times i had the chance to.

i've stopped my rambling.
i don't do too much gambling these days.
these days.
these days, i seem to think about how all the changes came about my way.
& i wonder if i'd see another highway.

i've had a lover.
i don't think i'd risk another these days.
these days.
& if i seem to be afraid to live the life that i have made and sob,
it's just that i've been losing so long.

i've not stopped my dreaming.
i don't not do too much scheming these days.
these days.
these days, i sit in cornerstones & count the time in quarter tones to ten.
please don't confront me with my failures.
i had not forgotten them.

-----

who’s going the right way down a wrong way street?
who’s making a mistake each time our mouths meet?
you’re smart & kind & easy on my eyes.
i know it feels good, that’s why we shouldn’t tonight.
who’s waiting for answers from a boy who can’t speak?
we'll be holding their breath until they're blue in the cheeks.
you’re smart & kind & you’re too easy on my eyes.
i know it feels good, so good, we still shouldn't tonight.
cause maybe my mom’s right, good deeds won’t save us, just true faith in Jesus.
so in the name of her Lord, let's finally do what we should.

-----

come gather round people, wherever you roam
& admit that the waters around you have grown
& accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone.
if your time to you is worth saving,
then you better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone.
for the times they are a-changin'.

come writers and critics,
who prophesize with your pen.
& keep your eyes wide.
the chance won't come again.
& don't speak too soon.
for the wheel's still in spin.
& there's no telling who that it's naming.
for the loser now will be later to win.
for the times they are a-changin'.

come senators, congressman.
please heed the call.
don't stand in the doorway.
don't block up the hall.
for he who gets hurt will be he who has stalled.
there's a battle outside & it is raging.
it'll soon shake your windows & rattle your walls,
for the times they are a-changin'.

come mothers and fathers throughout the land
& don't criticize what you can't understand.
your sons and your daughters are beyond your command.
you old road is rapidly aging.
please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand,
for the times they are a-changin'.

the line it is drawn.
the curse it is cast.
the slow one now, will later be fast.
as the present now will later be past.
the order is rapidly fading.
& the first one now will later be last.
for the times they are a-changin.
